What started as a class assignment at SMU has blossomed into a successful business for Dallas-based designer Eileen Kelley. As a frustrated consumer, Kelley (who is 5’3”) went in pursuit of the perfect women’s pant. “We are subject to ambiguous, non-standard sizing,” says Kelley. “I wondered why women can’t get on-site tailoring in the same quality and shop by inches like men.” Her solution: ready-to-alter pants that are 90 percent finished and 10 percent custom-tailored. Unfinished bottoms and waistbands allow the pants to be outfitted to each individual’s style preference (cuffed, wide-leg, high-waisted), body type (hourglass, pear, apple), and height.

In 2006 Kelley operated by appointment only and developed a following, leading her to open her first flagship store in May. All pants are made of 100 percent natural, high-quality fabrics such as tropical wool and year-round gabardines, ensuring a flattering drape and finish. “You will look like you dropped 5 pounds instantly,” Kelley says, “Your rear is our reputation.” Kelley is expanding the line to include tops and washable cotton pants. All orders take at least two weeks to complete.
